The Battle of Chateau-Thierry
The first battle Dickson was in was the Battle of Chateau-Thierry. This battle took place on May 31, 1918 and was part of the Second Battle of the Marne. This battle was quite significant because it was one of the first major conflicts that involved American forces in World War I. In this battle, Allied forces (French and American troops) were defending the city of Chateau-Thierry against German attacks. The Allies suffered 1,900 casualties while the Germans lost 5,300 soldiers.

The Battle of Saint-Mihiel
This was the first U.S. led offensive in World War I, and it was a victory. This battle was taken place in September of 1918. This victory was due to the intricate planning that went into the battle. This battle was led by the Chief of Army forces, General John J. Pershing. This battle was also the first battle to use the U.S. Army Air Service, the predecessor for the U.S. Army Air Force.

Meuse - Argonne Offensive
This was part of the final Allied offensive of World War I. This attack took place from September 26 to November 11 in 1918. The Meuse – Argonne Offensive was the largest operation that the United States carried out in World War I. The operation included over one million American soldiers, but this also ended up being the deadliest campaign with 120,000 casualties. However, this attack was significant as it brought the war to an end.

Dickson was discharged at Gievies, France on July 18, 1919. Jefferson Dickson received many decorations from WWI including the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, Medaille de la Marne, Medaille de St. Mehiel, Quarte Etoiles de L’armee Americaine, Commandeur du Ouissam Alaouete, Commandeur de Nicham Iftikhar, Officier des Palmes Academiques, Medaille d’Or de la Prevoyance Sociale, Medaille d’Or de L’Education Physique, and Officier de L’Education Oiville.
